Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a leading global standard for the processing of textiles made from organically produced natural fibres. It defines ecological requirements along the entire production chain and at the same time demands compliance with social standards. This is regularly checked on site at the production plants by independent certification bodies. The most important criteria are:
- Organic cultivation of cotton, no pesticides or other harmful substances, only natural fertilisers, no chemical defoliants.
- No use of bleaching agents, dyeing only with approved dyes and printing with water-based inks.
- Payment of living wages, health and safety protection and social security.
- No discrimination, prohibition of child and forced labour and the right to organise.
