Organic Cotton

Cotton is the most commonly grown natural fibre in the world. At loud + proud we only use organic cotton, since conventionally grown cotton is a major burden on people and the environment:

  • The seeds are often genetically manipulated or chemically treated.
  • Watering is artificial, the water is extracted from the local ecosystem.
  • Cultivation takes place in monocultures, which exhausts the soil and makes plants susceptible to pests and diseases. This means that a high level of use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers is required.
  • Defoliants are used for mechanical harvesting.
  • So there is a risk of toxic residues on the fibres and the finished textile.

In contrast, organic cotton is grown in crop rotation and naturally fertilized. There is natural watering using rainwater. Pesticides and defoliants are not allowed. Organic cotton uses 91% less water than conventional cotton. Only 1% of the world's cotton is grown under controlled organic conditions.

Organic-Wool

Due to the high proportion of air in wool fibres, wool can store and balance body temperature very well. Therefore it warms very well. The fibre can store a lot of water, while the surface repels both moisture and dirt better than cotton. Also smells do not adhere. Wool has a natural self-cleaning function and therefore only needs to be washed rarely.

Organic wool (kbT) means, the animals are kept in a controlled organic manner in accordance with the guidelines for organic farming.
